The Course
This course will provide community care workers with information about good bladder management. Basic anatomy of the urinary tract, complications associated with the bladder and options for continence aids, including intermittent/urinary catheter are discussed.

This course meets the requirements for support workers according to the NDIS Practice Standards 2022
Follow personal hygiene and infection control procedures
Basic anatomy of the urinary tract
Common types of urinary catheter - intermittent, external, urethral and supra pubic
Common complications associated with using different types of catheters
Change, clean and dispose of catheter bags
Monitor catheter position and skin condition around catheter insertion site
Recognise and respond/report blockages, dislodged catheters, signs of deteriorating health or infection.
Indicators of complications that require intervention and understanding when to involve a health practitioner
Maintain charts/records
Maintaining hydration
Practical Activities
Attendees are encouraged to demonstrate emptying and changing urine drain bags
Duration of the course is 2.5 hours
A certificate of achievement is issued to all participants.
Certificates are valid for one year.
