The Course
This course provides an opportunity for community care and disability support workers to develop the required knowledge and skills to support clients with a gastrostomy/jejunostomy (PEG) tube and enteral nutrition (tube feeding).

This course meets the requirements for support workers according to the NDIS Practice Standards 2022
Understand why enteral nutrition is required
Basic anatomy of the digestive system
Different enteral nutrition tubes and routes for administering enteral nutrition
Care of the insertion site
Awareness of risks associated with administering enteral nutrition and medication administration through a gastrostomy tube
Correct positioning to maintain airway safety and avoid choking risk and pressure area care when administering enteral nutrition
The impact of associated health conditions and complications in association with enteral nutrition
Equipment components, function, cleaning and maintenance procedures
Practical Activities
Attendees will have access to a range of feeding equipment and the opportunity to improve their skills with hands on experience under direct supervision.
Duration of the course is 3.5 hours
Attendees will receive a certificate on completion of the course.
Certificates are valid for one year.
